Mentorn Media has been commissioned to produce a two-part documentary for Sky Real Lives called My Big Fat Cycle Challenge.
The inspiring and engaging programmes sees the talent behind the British Olympic Cycling Team take on the ultimate challenge of getting four overweight women into shape and showing them how to break lifelong habits of yo-yo dieting once and for all.
The squad from Team GB tasked with this challenge is performance director Dave Brailsford, psychiatrist Dr Steve Peters, Shane Sutton, the unforgiving performance motivator in chief, Nigel Mitchell the team nutritionist and Mark Simpson the strength and conditioning coach. Their quest for perfection ended with a box full of Olympic medals in Beijing, but can they use their talents to bring glory of a different kind to four seriously overweight northern women?
The two hour programmes were commissioned by Sky Real Lives Commissioning Editor Siobhan Mulholland, and will transmit in high definition on Sky Real Lives in early October.
Barbara Gibbon, Head of Sky Real Lives says: “This series shows four ordinary women taking on their own personal challenge with the dedication of an Olympic athlete. My Big Fat Cycle Challenge offers a moving insight into just what it takes to get these women on their bikes, making them realise that in their own way they can attain gold, whilst showing the rest of our viewers how they can do it too.”
Neil Grant is Executive Producer for Mentorn Media alongside Producers Sam Kingsley and John Harkins.
My Big Fat Cycle Challenge builds on Sky’s partnership with British Cycling. Throughout the summer there will be Skyride events in four city centres, with streets closed to traffic, and hundreds of local guided rides. These free events will give tens of thousands of people, of all ages and abilities, the chance to enjoy riding with their family and friends. For more information visit: www.goskyride.com
