Mentorn Media has been commissioned by Virgin Media Television owned entertaninment channel LIVING to produce a brand new series Diet on the Dance Floor, it was announced today (THURS).
The new reality series picks up on the current craze for literally dancing yourself slim, as ten amateur dancers, all in need of losing a few pounds, pair up with dance pros in a bid to boogie away the body fat. They will be judged on weight loss, technical style and panache. The eight-part series will air on LIVING in Summer 2008.
Diet on the Dance Floor's judging panel will be a mix of dance, health and fitness professionals, all currently being cast. They will be responsible for setting the dance challenges and evaluating the weekly dances. In addition there will be costume challenges each week, finding outfits that work for each dance, to help the participants conquer their fears over revealing outfits, that will become smaller and more daring, as they shed pounds the further they get in the competition. Contributors fitness will be closely monitored with health plans to help them to keep their energy up through sensible and healthy diets. The pair that dance their way to the finals and win, will be crowned Diet on the Dance Floor Champions.
The 10 participants will undergo fitness tests before they start, to monitor their progress, weight loss, strength and cardio throughout Diet on the Dancefloor. The couples will be paired up and each week have to learn a different dance genre such as Jive, Salsa, Tango, Cha Cha Cha and the Foxtrot, each week to try and stay in the competition. The judges will eliminate one couple per week, based on those who fell short on weight loss that week, technical progression, stamina, how well their new look carries off their outfits, chemistry with their partner and the set “lift and hold” manoeuvre for that week.
Mentorn Media's Executive Producer, Hannah Wyatt, said: "We're really excited about the series. It promises to be fun and glamorous but also highly competitive. They’ll have to work hard to master all the challenges and shape up if they’re going to stand a chance of winning.”
Claudia Rosencrantz, Director of Television, Virgin Media Television said: “Dance dieting is currently the hottest way to slim down and, in an age where people will go to unbelievable lengths to lose weight, it’s certainly the most fun! Diet on the Dance Floor is totally LIVING: feel-good, hugely entertaining and, of course, uplifting!”
Commissioning editor for LIVING is Mark Sammon. From Mentorn, Kat Lennox is Series Producer, with Hannah Wyatt and Dan Barraclough as Executive Producers.
