Two years after Madeleine McCann went missing, a Channel 4 documentary will broadcast a reconstruction of what witnesses say happened on the night of May 3, 2007, in the Portuguese Algarve resort of Praia da Luz.
The reconstruction is the first of its kind to take place with the collaboration of Madeleine’s parents, Kate and Gerry McCann, and friends.
Witnesses are returning to Portugal and their testimony is being used by private investigators working for the family to re-construct with actors key events that may offer new clues to what happened to Madeleine.
The Cutting Edge documentary, made by Mentorn Media, is currently being filmed and will be shown on Channel 4 on May 7th, in the week of the second anniversary of Madeleine’s disappearance. Madeleine’s sixth birthday is on May 12th.
Mark Raphael, Channel 4’s Commissioning Editor for Documentaries, says:
“The disappearance of Madeleine McCann is one of the most harrowing unsolved crimes of recent years. Two years on Kate and Gerry McCann are still searching for their daughter. We hope that this documentary and reconstruction may be able to provide vital new leads for the investigation.”
Executive Producer Steve Anderson says: “This documentary has exclusive and significant access to the private investigation into Madeleine’s disappearance.
“We film with Gerry McCann as he makes his first return to the apartment where Madeleine was sleeping before she disappeared. In addition two members of the group of friends known as the Tapas 7, Jane Tanner and Matt Oldfield, are filmed as they return to the Ocean Club for the first time.
“They are interviewed about what they say the saw on the night of May 3, 2007. The investigators hope that these testimonies, along with those of other witnesses may jog the memories of others who may know, or have seen, something significant."
