Mentorn Media has been commissioned by BBC FOUR to produce a two-part series on the history of the Indian railway with John Sergeant.
The series originally commissioned by Mark Bell will be repeated on BBC TWO after its debut on BBC FOUR and explores the Indian railway network and it’s place in political history.
In the hour-long programmes, John Sergeant embarks on a unique journey to discover how Britain built a ‘railway nation’ in India. He’ll be travelling through India examining the incredible engineering feats undertaken and the role of the British, Indians and Anglo-Indians in the running of the vast, sprawling network.
As well as visiting stations, John travels the iconic stretches of track and, with historical archive material, tells the story of their construction to discover why the railways hold a pivotal place in India’s national identity.
Mentorn Media’s Executive Producer, Specialist and Contemporary Factual, Helen Hawken said: “The railways are seen as the unifying trunk of India’s family tree; the catalyst for change to which the branches of India’s social, economical and political identity can all be traced. John’s fascination for India’s history and politics makes him the perfect presenter.”
The series was developed by Head of Development, Dan Goldsack and will be executive produced by Helen Hawken and Dan Goldsack.
