Queen and County launched, and was the centrepiece of, the BBC’s Golden Jubilee coverage.
The series finds something fresh to say about the Queen and escapes the treadmill of royal commentators, featuring instead people who had been in direct contact with the Queen, as relations, friends, employees, Prime Ministers and members of the public.
Programme two includes an exclusive interview with the Princess Royal – the first time she had granted such intimate access to speak about her mother. The programme also included previously unseen home movie footage shot by the Queen and revelations about the Queen’s private feelings about Diana, Princess of Wales.
Queen and Country generated enormous amounts of media coverage across all the UK media and internationally, including front page splashes in the Sun, Telegraph and Standard and a 17-page article in Vanity Fair. The Sun leader described Queen and Country as “one of the best documentary series the BBC has ever commissioned.”
